THE management at Mokoomba have said they will not be lured into a public fight with their suspended member who has claimed a number of issues are dogging the musical group.

Mokoomba are currently on tour in the United States.

Suspended band member, Abundance Mutori, claimed there was financial mismanagement at the group and members were living from hand to mouth.

The bass guitarist, who was dropped for the current tour of the United States, said financial issues were handled with secrecy at the group.

Band spokesperson, Marcus Gora, said they will not be lured into a messy public fight.

“The band will meet with him, it’s an internal issue,” he said.

Another source told H-Metro.

“These boys really care about their image and profile and feel that if they get into a messy fight right now it will end up affecting their brand,” he said.

“They believe it will not benefit them so they just want to concentrate on what they do best and that is to make music and thrill their fans.

“They work with serious promoters and they know the importance of having a good brand and that is what they are making a priority.

“They have taken years to build their brand and they want to preserve it.”

The current tour, which began in April, is the group’s fifth visit to the United States.

The group had their debut tour of the United States in 2013.

A series of shows has been lined up in New York, Miami, Vermont,  Indianapolis, and Los Angeles until April 28.

The major highlights of the tour will be the group’s performances in Los Angeles at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Mokoomba will also perform at the Festival International de Lousiane running from April 26-28 in Los Angeles.

Mokoomba had their breakthrough when they won the Music Crossroads Inter-regional finals in Malawi in 2009. Last year, they toured Europe and made an impression in Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Unlike most local artists that target Zimbabwean communities overseas, Mokoomba has defied the odds by winning the hearts of multi-racial crowds.
