POLICE have arrested a woman from Marange following the circulation of a disturbing viral video that shows her assaulting a minor who was bound hand and foot.

The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Idah Mushayi, the biological mother of the 11-year-old victim.

The incident occurred on November 13 in Village 28, Mount Zonzwe, located within Chief Marange’s area in Odzi.

A police statement released over the weekend confirmed that the minor was allegedly beaten by her mother over the purported theft of US$11.

The graphic video, which sparked widespread public outrage, clearly shows the child being assaulted while restrained.

“Following investigations, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested the suspect,” said police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi in the statement.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police condemns all forms of violence against children,” the statement continued.

“We urge parents and guardians to correct and guide their children in a responsible and non-violent manner,” said Comm Nyathi.
