adminSEOUL. — South Korean President Moon Jae-in said yesterday that momentous changes will come with summits between South Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and between the DPRK and the United States which had been agreed to hold in succession in the next two months.
Moon made the remarks during a weekly meeting with his senior secretaries, according to a pool report of the Blue House.
A precious opportunity, Moon said, was created to open a door to the denuclearized Korean Peninsula, a permanent peace regime and co-prosperity of the two Koreas.
If the opportunity was successfully taken, a dramatic change will be made in the world’s history, Moon noted.
Moon’s comments came after the two Koreas agreed to hold a summit in late April in the truce village of Panmunjom.
Moon’s special envoys visited Washington last week to brief US President Donald Trump on their visit to Pyongyang and conveyed top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un’s willingness to talk with the US side.
Trump told the envoys that he would meet the DPRK leader by May to achieve a permanent denucleariasition.
The South Korean leader said the fate of South Korea and the Korean Peninsula depended on whether to make the opportunity a success, calling it as a chance that must never be missed.
The opportunity was given as the whole world wished for peace, not war, as well as a diplomatic resolution, not a military action, Moon said.
Moon indicated his cautious stance, saying the result, which will happen in the next two months, was still hard to get optimistic, while remaining discreet about the processes.
He asked all South Koreans, irrespectively of liberals and conservatives or the ruling and the opposition parties, to support the talks to come in the space of two months. – Xinhua
