FEMALE boxer Monalisa Sibanda is anxiously awaiting an opportunity to once again step into the ring and fight.
Sibanda last fought Malawian Ruth Chisale in August 2025, losing by a unanimous points decision. Even though her life continues with family, church, and day-to-day responsibilities, Sibanda said she remains committed to training and staying ready—both for her own health and for the future of the sport.
“I’m still in,” Mona said when asked what she is currently doing. According to her, training remains normal, alongside family commitments and church activities.
She also explained that while she is not promising any fights right now, she is ready to take opportunities whenever the chances come.
Her motivation goes beyond competition. “I also train for the sake of my health,” she said, describing how boxing has become part of her discipline.
She also hinted at what comes after her active years—adding that, if life allows, she wants to continue in the boxing fraternity through coaching and supporting the sport’s stakeholders.
“I want to help groom future champions,” she said.
Sibanda’s eldest son Andy, is following in her mother’s steps.
“We train together,” she said.
The boxer revealed that she has already passed on the skills and mindset she learned through years of fighting.
“I imparted into him the basic skills,” she explained, adding that whether he becomes a full-time boxer will depend on the choices that he makes.
Speaking about her son’s ability, she said he is “very good.” She, however, refused to discuss much about the young boxer.
“I do not want to reveal much about him. I want to guide and protect him,” she added.
