Pan-African Youth Development Specialist and President-Elect of the African Union Youth Assembly, Ms Anne Mugwagwa has been appointed Zimbabwe Ambassador of the Monomutapa Kingdom, a post to uplift the nation’s youth communities.

She was appointed by Monomutapa Kingdom Queen Tumi Tsele Mafela in South Africa recently at the Youth in Charge Summit which indicated the appointment as more than ceremonial, but illustrated why investing in young leaders is not only about opportunity but about securing the nation’s social and economic resilience.

Speaking to Zimpapers, Ambassador of the Monomutapa Kingdom Ms Anne Mugwagwa emphasised that empowering youth with skills and opportunities is central to achieving Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030.

“I believe that Zimbabwe’s aspiration to become an upper‑middle‑income economy by 2030 can only be achieved through meaningful investment in young people.

“By nurturing responsible, innovative, and empowered young leaders, we contribute directly to national development and sustainable economic growth,”she said.

The historic Monomotapa Kingdom (Mutapa Empire), which covered parts of modern-day Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and South Africa, highlighted the attance of kings and queens of these different nations.

Queen Tumi Tsele Mafela of South Africa raised concerns about young women traveling to South Africa for abortion services, urging Zimbabwe to address restrictive policies.

“Young women and girls are travelling to South Africa to access abortion services because abortion remains largely restricted in Zimbabwe.

“The government and relevant stakeholders must examine the issue and consider solutions that address the underlying challenges facing young women,”she said.

Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Albert Mavunga shared his personal journey of resilience, inspiring youth to persevere despite adversity.

“My story is one of determination and hope, showing that adversity can be overcome.

“The importance of resilience is that it empowers us to rise above challenges and continue striving for success,”he said.
