A HEARTLESS father from Chezhou Village in Dete has been jailed after twice trying to kill his two sons aged 13 and 8.
The MAN (34), cannot be named to protect the identities of the minor victims. He first struck in February last year when he tied wires to the roof and attempted to hang both boys. They escaped and fled to their great-grandmother’s home.
In August this year, he tied one son’s hands and legs, threatened to kill him with a knife, and beat the other with a log. Again, the terrified boys managed to flee.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said:
“Any act that endangers a child’s life is a serious crime. Parents and guardians must ensure children’s safety at all times.”
The father pleaded not guilty in court but was convicted on four counts of child ill-treatment. He was handed a 15-month sentence, with six months suspended, leaving him to serve nine months behind bars.
The NPAZ urged communities to report child abuse cases immediately to save lives and bring abusers to justice.
