Government has mobilised more drugs for the Chidamoyo community in Hurungwe, where about 100 cases of suspected typhoid were reported recently. According to sources, the move is aimed at ensuring that people receive free treatment until the situation is contained.Government officials and partners visited the area on Wednesday to assess the impact and the possible assistance they can render the community.

“We have received more drugs so that people can be treated for free. Some partners visited the area yesterday (Wednesday) to see what sort of assistance they can render,” said a source who was part of the tour.

Typhoid cases were recorded in two villages in the Bhashungwe area, about nine kilometres from Chidamoyo Christian Hospital.

The outbreak resulted in 11 pupils from both Bhashungwe primary and secondary schools being hospitalised, with some of them yet to report for the first school term.
