He could not draw comparisons with the amount of last year’s rains, saying it was still too early to analyse this year’s December rainfall compared to previous years.
“This is because we are still in the first week. This is normally done by the end third week when we are looking at the performance of the first half of the season,” said Mr Chifuna.
He advised farmers and those into agricultural activities to liaise with their local agricultural authorities.
Mr Chifuna said the country had generally received widespread rainfall activity.
“These falls covered the whole country and were heavy in some places especially on 3 December. Some of the notable recorded falls were in Harare with 66mm, Mukandi 64mm while Chipinge had 29mm,” said Mr Chifuna.
He said yesterday Nkayi district received 23mm of rainfall.
“Although these are the significant falls that we recorded at our stations, some places which do not have rain gauges might have recorded more,” said Mr Chifuna.
