The participation of youths in Shamva in this year’s electoral processes increased to 50 percent compared to 10 percent in 2018.
CHe said the Second Republic had exceeded expectations in developing the country despite the presence of illegal sanctions.
It was celebration time in Mashonaland Central as the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa got a fresh five-year mandate after romping to victory.
Cde Dokwani said youths in the province were overjoyed by the election outcome, which saw the ruling party retaining all 18 parliamentary seats in the province.
Two days before the elections, youths in Shamva promised President Mnangagwa 81 000 votes, a promise they fulfilled.
“We set ourselves a target which we met and managed to be tops in the whole country in both Presidential and Parliamentary elections by giving ZANU PF a landslide victory in our district,” he said.
In Shamva South, Cde Joseph Mapiki got 31 068 against the CCC candidate’s 3 106, while in Shamva North, Cde Isaac Chinodakufa got 26 320 against 3 298 received by Ms Mavis Muringisanwa of CCC.
Said Cde Dokwani: “What we did in Shamva as the Youth League is to defend the revolution, our sovereignty and independence.”
He added that voter turnout was high in Shamva this year, compared to 2018, with more youths participating.
“The interest from youths in Shamva to participate in politics was stimulated by His Excellency President Mnangagwa’s support to them.
“For the first time, we are going to see young people in Parliament representing youths. This is because the Second Republic walks the talk on its promises.
“In Shamva, we have seen the reopening of Shamva Gold Mine and completion of Shamva-Bindura highway. We have seen clinics being constructed in Matanda Ward 12 and Mupfure Clinic in ward 2.”
Turning to the post-election period, Cde Dokwani said the situation was calm and youths were celebrating the ZANU PF win.
District Coordinating Committee chairperson for Bindura Cde Lucas Chigede said they would have preferred to have more youths participating in the elections to ensure a thunderous victory for ZANU PF and the President.
“However, those who voted did it well. We are under illegal sanctions and people are bitter. It is painful that the sanctions are supported by the opposition party,” said Cde Chigede.
“We are thankful for the victory. It was easy for us during the campaign period because the developmental work being done by the Second Republic in the energy sector, infrastructure development, water and sanitation, among other things, speaks for itself.
“I commend the province for political maturity. The pre and post-election period was peaceful save for a few political violence cases instigated by the opposition. The cases were handled by the police.”
Cde Isaas Chinodakufa, who won in Shamva North, said he was happy with the results.
“People in our constituencies knew us well and we were now working hard for the President’s votes. We didn’t want a scenario where the President gets half of the MPs’ votes,” he said.
“Shamva is the heartbeat of Zanu PF and the developmental work done by the Second Republic is there for everyone to see. During this election, we witnessed votes for the opposition declining, an indication that people are preferring Zanu PF.
“I am sure that some of the opposition members voted for Zanu PF.”
