MultiChoice has this year introduced new and exciting channels to cater for the varying tastes of subscribers hence flicking through channels on DStv has become an everyday habit for many. Many people buy decoders to watch quality programmes and get the best in sport, news and entertainment. There is a wide range of programmes to choose from and these include movie channels, sport and wildlife.
Bollywoood ZEE World was introduced this year for viewers to enjoy the colourful love themed movies and series from India. In the same vein this year MultiChoice added a second Latin American telenovela TV channel, Eva (DStv 141) to DStv in Africa, following the introduction of Telemundo (DStv 118) in August 2013.
Telenovelas — serialised Spanish soapies, have become the new TV buzzword for Africa, with DStv channels such as Mzansi Magic to SABC1, SABC2 and now e.tv all broadcasting and feverishly producing local telenovelas. Programmes to look forward to are Prisoner of Love, The Swindler, The Perfect Woman and Timeless Love.
For those who like to watch African movies they can choose from Africa Magic Epic Movies and Urban Movies. Those who like lifestyle programmes Africa Magic Showcase has the likes of Star Gist. At the beginning of this month BBC Brit and BBC Earth were launched on DStv as part of increasing the entertainment value of the pay channel.
BBC Brit has re-runs of popular programmes such as Top Gear and viewers can have a chance to watch the enigmatic and controversial Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. Another UK channel ITV Choice was launched in May with a mixture of lifestyle programmes and soapies such as Coronation Street.
Zambezi Magic was introduced in July, tailor-made with the Southern African viewer in mind and will offer the most sought-after archive content that has so far not been available outside of South Africa. Re-runs of Generations, Muvhango and Isidingo are shown on the pay channel.
