Directors of Synlak (Private) Limited – Moses Mpofu, Nobukhosi Mpofu, and Vusimuzi James Mpofu – have appeared in court facing fraud allegations involving a biogas project worth $415 290.

The trio appeared before Harare Magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa, charged with fraud.

Nobukhosi and Vusimuzi were granted bail of $800 each, while Moses will file his bail application, with the ruling set for May 13.

The case stems from a tender for the City of Harare’s Mbare Biogas Project, funded by a €350 500 grant from the European Union.

Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti said Synlak misrepresented its financial capacity and qualifications to win the tender.

Although the tender required payment after project completion, the accused allegedly connived with Tendai Kwenda, the then director of finance for the City of Harare, to secure advance payments totalling $415 290.
