A mother and her son tracked the shoe print of one of the men who had robbed her of a cellphone, leading to the arrest of him and his accomplice.
The two men were jailed for six months each for robbing a woman of her Itel P50 cellphone after they choked the victim before fleeing the scene.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said: “On 5 April 2024, at 65 Block 6 Muzvezve, Simbarashe Lunga (26) and Simbarashe Mapani pounced on Nokuthula Takawira (43) and demanded cash from the complainant who told them that she had no cash. Lunga choked the complainant while Mapani forcibly took the complainant’s Itel P50 cellphone before fleeing the scene.”
Takawira managed to track down the shoe print of one of the robbers with the help of her son, Mike Takawira which led to Lunga’s place of residence.
“The Police interviewed the first accused person’s brother who reviewed that the shoetrack belonged to Simbarashe Lunga leading to his arrest and the recovery of the complainant’s cellphone. The first accused person implicated Simbarashe Mapani”, said the NPAZ
They were sentenced to 6 months imprisonment each.
