MOTHERS without doubt, occupy a very special place in everyone’s life because of the love and care they lavish on their children, from birth to adulthood.
It is therefore only natural and fitting that a day should be set aside to pay tribute and let all the mothers in the world know how much they are appreciated for their crucial role.
Having a day set aside for mothers does not mean that they are less significant on other days of the year but only gives people a chance to shower them with special and thoughtful gifts or treats.
“Mothers are very special and more times than not we go through life without acknowledging the sacrifices that they make to give us a good life.
“When we are sick, our mothers are the ones who nurse us no matter how old we are and they are always ready to help us when we have problems as kids or when we get settled,” said Ms Sithandazile Ndlovu.
LESSONS FOR TODAY
l May 9 was Mother’s Day, a day that is recognised the world over as very significant. People reflect on the importance of a mother in a person’s life. Thus, the second Sunday of May has been set aside to honour motherhood.
l Mothers deserve to be honoured and respected, as they are the ones who look after the family.
l Even the Word of God admonishes people to hounour their fathers and mothers – (which is the first commandment with promise). (Ephesians 6:1)
l Mothers are the greatest source of strength and inspiration.
l It is befitting to honour the 25-year-old Malian woman, Halima Cissé who recently gave birth to nine babies (five girls and four boys), in what could be a record for Africa. The assistance she will receive to take care of the set of nonuplets will show the importance of motherhood.
