Moto X riders back at Donnybrook

AFTER having taken a break for just over a month, it will be back sweating in the trenches for the country’s top junior and senior motocross riders as they take part in Round Four of the 2024 RK Fuels Bog-wheelers Club National Championship series at Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare on Sunday.

The local dirt bike riders were last seen in action on May 19 during Round Three of the series which produced some exhilarating racing in each class, especially in the seniors class.

All eyes will be on the main MX1 Class which is expected to be dominated again by South Africa’s Jonathan Mlimi, who was just untouchable the last time out at Donnybrook.

Mlimi took part in last weekend’s Round Four of the 2024 South African National Motocross Championship series at Teza where he came third overall in the MX2 Class if he’s not hit by fatigue and makes his way back to Donnybrook on Sunday then local motocross fans are in for a treat.

He is likely to be accompanied by his brother Joshua who races in both the MX1 and MX2 classes.

Spills and thrills will be the order of the day as Jonathan Mlimi once again jostles for the top step on the podium with his close friend Emmanuel Bako and local senior champion rider Ashley Thixton.

There’s going to be high drama in this class.

In the MX2 Class, it will once again be a two-horse race between Dylan Zanin and Daiyaan Manuel.

Zanin forced Manuel to settle for second place during Round Three of the series and the latter will be out to gain some measure of revenge on Sunday.

There’s going to be a different outcome in this class on Sunday if Manuel comes out with all his guns blazing.

Manuel has declared that he won’t be messing around on the track on Sunday.

There’s no love lost between these two riders.

In the MX3 Class, Daniel Scott, Kevin Morgan, and Daniel West will be back fighting for the top step on the podium.

Kabelo Ledwaba of South Africa has been taking no prisoners in the 85cc and 125cc classes and local riders Riley Rocher, Seb Wright, Declan Barrett, and Karl van As are unlikely to find any favours from this talented rider on Sunday.

Ledwaba is just a brilliant rider and a joy to watch on the track.

There will also be an exciting duel between Chris Mufanechiya and Victor Nyamupfukudza in the 65cc Class.

Mufanechiya is now a dominant force in the 65cc Class in which he beat Nyamupfukudza into second place during Round Three of the series on May 19 but the latter is determined to stop the former’s dominance in this exciting class.

Nyamupfukudza is highly motivated as we head into Sunday’s race meeting and his father and manager, Simbarashe Nyamupfukudza, has promised some fireworks on Sunday. “He ((Victor) dropped three points during the last race but he’s still far ahead of them, he came second overall which wasn’t bad at all.

“I think for this coming race meeting he will be more aggressive. He had more time practicing on the track with his trainer Big Chitima and I’m convinced he will take the top step on the podium on Sunday,” Simbarashe Nyamupfukudza said.
