THE 2019 Zimbabwe motocross season is set to rev off next month with a packed year of events at its fortress, Donnybrook Raceway, in Harare.

The Bogwheelers Club, who run the motorcycling sport of motocross in this country under the Zimbabwe Motorsport Federation, recently released their national calendar for this year and it will consist of four events with the first one scheduled for February 17.

The other three national events have been slated for March 17, July 14 and September 29.

They will be sandwiched by a number of club events which will also be staged by the Bogwheelers Club at Donnybrook.

This year’s season-ending event — the Zimbabwe Summer Series — will once again be staged over three days on December 11, 13 and 15 at the same venue.

It will consist of two Supercross events during the first two days and a full day of motocross action on the last day of competition.

Top Zimbabwean junior and senior male and female riders are also expected to compete in the FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations Championships from August 30 to September 1 at a venue to be announced.

Meanwhile, a number of top junior and senior Zimbabwean motocross riders will once again take part in this year’s seven-round South African National Championship series which gets underway on February 23 with the staging of its first round at Rover in Port Elizabeth.

Gary Grainger, former chairman of the Bogwheelers Club, recently indicated he will be reviving his  Grainger Racing KTM Team which will take part in this year’s South African National Championship Series.

Grainger, a chicken farmer, told The Herald that his project was still very much alive and kicking and he will be relaunching it this year with two of its main riders, Ashley Thixton and Tristan Grainger, having already made a commitment to take part in the 2019 South African National Championship series which runs from next month through to October.

Tristan Grainger, who has mainly been riding in the 85cc Class, will this year graduate to race in the 125cc Class while Thixton will mainly be racing in the seniors MX1 Class.

Tristan Grainger and Thixton will be joined in this year’s South African Nationals by 13-year-old Emmanuel Bako who will mainly be racing in the 85cc Class after having competed in the 65cc Class last year.
