The 2015 FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations Championships will be held at Harare’s Donnybrook Raceway on August 29 and this annual motorcycling event usually attracts top junior and senior riders from seven African countries including Angola, Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Last year’s event was staged in Kitwe, Zambia. Botswana was expected to host it this year but they pulled out of the race in April.
Zimbabwean riders have already stepped up their preparations for this continental event and this week five of the county’s top junior riders Daiyaan Manuel, Ryan Masimo and Emmanuel Bako, were officially invited by one of Germany’s big motocross clubs, RMC Reutlingen, to train and compete in the European country leading up to the August 29 competition.
Tenthani braces for
challenge
BMX rider Penias Tenthani will be competing in the elite division at the World Championships in Belgium next month for the first time in his career.
The elite race is the highest level in the sport and the 19-year old Zimbabwean said he is ready for the biggest challenge of his career.
Tenthani is a member of a 13-man squad that has been training at Old Georgians in Groombridge ahead of the World Championships.
The city of Antwerp will host the event between July 21 and 25.
“It is going to be a bit tough and it’s making me nervous.
“I have raced at elite levels before when I was in Europe, but at the World Championships there will be more fierce competitors and it should be more intense,” he said.
Tenthani will shape up for the mega event by taking part in a contest in Durban, South Africa two weeks from now.
“Unfortunately for us in Africa there are few riders and there are not so many tracks either.
“This makes it difficult for us in preparations when it comes to getting ready for these big races and it is always a bit of a downside for us,” said Tenthani. – The Herald.
