A Bluffhill woman yesterday lost US$5000 when thieves broke into her parked vehicle around midnight at Greenfields Shopping Centre.
Tapiwa Muchenje, 27, parked her black Toyota Vanbat and proceeded to a restaurant and returned around 0130 hours.
She discovered that someone had smashed the rear quarter glass using an unknown object and forcibly unlocked the motor vehicle and stole a handbag with US$5000 which was left at the back seat and went away unnoticed.
In a related case, Jonathan Tandangu, 48, of Glen Norah lost his national Identity card, driver’s license and USD $1200 cash which he had left in his Toyota Hilux GD6 parked at the Harare Showgrounds while for going to a nearby casino.
Upon returning at around 4pm, he discovered that someone unlocked the motor vehicle using an unknown object, gained entry into the car and stole a brown wallet which was left underneath the driver’s seat containing his national I.D, driver’s license and cash amounting to USD $1200.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the cases urging motorists to avoid leaving valuables in parked vehicles.
“Police are investigating two theft from car cases involving US$6 200.
“We continue to urge motorists to avoid valuables that included laptops, cash, cellphones in parked cars,” said Insp Chakanza.
