THE 2025 motorsport season officially revs off tomorrow with the staging of the opening round of the Bogwheelers Club National Motocross Championship series at the iconic Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare.
From the high-octane thrills of motocross to the endurance challenges of enduro, there’s something for every motorsport enthusiast this season.
It’s going to be another blockbuster year of motorsport activities.
According to the calendar of events for 2025 that was recently released by Jamie Kerwin of Motorsport Zimbabwe, motocross fans should expect fierce battles on the dirt tracks tomorrow as riders push their limits in various classes.
The country’s top junior and senior riders make their way to Donnybrook to take part in Round One of the six-round National Championship series., which is one of the more popular rounds, and for good reason.
The different class events are tough on the riders and great for the fans tooThe National Championship series will see riders vying for top honours, with thrilling races and spectacular jumps.
In fact, the National Championship kicks off with the first of six rounds tomorrow, followed by the other five rounds on March 30, May 4, June 15, July 20, and October 12.
The likes of Daiyaan “D” Manuel, Emmanuel Bako, Doug Mellor, Karl van As, Riley Rocher, Chris Mufanechiya, Judah and Mudiwa Sakupwanya, and Victor Nyamupfukudza will all be back in action on the track at Donnybrook.
And it all promises to be a fun-filled and action-packed day as these riders fight to pick up some valuable points as the new season opens.
The sport’s history books are set to be opened up as a number of riders will be out to add their names to the winners’ list.
Tomorrow will also give the sport’s future superstars an opportunity to compete on a professional motocross track in front of enthusiastic fans.
Manuel, who had a good outing in the seniors last season, is expected to be a favourite again in this year’s programme.
His old foe Bako will be making his racing debut in the MX1 Class, coming up from the 125cc Class.
Bako announced his arrival in the MX1 Class by sweeping the board during the opening round of the 2025 Mayfair Gearbox Inland Championship at Erora in Johannesburg, South Africa, last Saturday and he showed a lot of speed.
The track at Donnybrook is always fast and long. It opens up the straightaway lengths and increases the overall speeds. It’s apparent in the results, too, as Manuel has excelled here, using his high-speed prowess while Bako has comparatively struggled, unable to use his laser precision when the track deteriorates.
Trends aren’t a rule, but we see no reason why we won’t see shades of those tendencies tomorrow.
In the Juniors section, a “Battle Royale” is expected between Chris Mufanechiya and 10-year-old Victor Nyamupfukudza in the 65cc Class.
Mufanechiya was a dominant force in this class last season but he will have his hands full as he takes on a determined Nyamupfukudza this year.
Nyamupfukudza has just moved into the 65cc Class from the 50cc Class and he has gained some great experience on the track in the past three years while competing in the African Championships in Uganda, South Africa and Morocco.
