LEADING Botswana automotive spare parts retailer, Motovac is spreading its wings to Zimbabwe where it plans to open its first retail shop in Bulawayo next month. Motovac is one of the largest importers and distributors of automotive spare parts in Botswana with 18 branches in the neighbouring country.
A company official who declined to be named said they want to set up their headquarters in Bulawayo.
“We’ve finished all the paper work. We’ve complied with the indigenisation laws and we’ll be opening our first shop in Bulawayo next month.
“We want to set up our company headquarters in Bulawayo before spreading to other parts of the country,” said the official.
The official said the opening of the retail shop will guarantee motorists genuine parts at affordable prices.
“We’ve 50,000 lines of spare parts, genuine parts that are very affordable. Motorists will no longer travel to Botswana or South Africa in search of genuine car parts,” said the official.
Motovac, which has 12 branches in Namibia and two in Mozambique, is believed to be a joint venture between the Mphoko family and some Botswana-based business partner.
The company has a turnover of 1.2 billion pula every month.
Motovac offers a wide range of automotive spare parts and quality customer service to the wholesale, retail and government markets.
Its major range of products includes body panels, engine parts, suspension parts, lamps and accessories, borehole diesel engines among other spares.
Motovac, which started in 1983 in Lobatse, Botswana with a handful of employees, now boasts of more than 400 workers with operations spread all over Botswana and partner companies in South Africa, Namibia and the United Kingdom.
