THE inaugural Nyanga Mountain Valley half-marathon race was officially launched at a local hotel yesterday, with all partners in attendance and the enthusiasm pointing to an exciting event.
Hospitality institution Rainbow Tourism Group are the organisers and have joined hands with Pacific Breeze, who are the main sponsor, while Musabvunda are the event coordinators.
The event will bring together tourism and wellness.
Speaking at the launch, RTG chief commercial director Shupai Marware said they are happy to support the half-marathon, which will promote healthy living.
“We are happy to be part of this first-ever half-marathon set for Monte Claire Resort on September 26.
“We are already putting the final touches on the preparations for the Nyanga Mountain run half-marathon,” said Marware.
“The weekend will bring together athletics, live music, wellness and tourism in an effort to showcase Nyanga and the wider Eastern Highlands as a destination for both adventure and leisure.”
With 1,500 athletes already registered, event organiser Kudzai Pasipanodya of Musabvunda Sportswear said they are ready to host the sports and music festival, which is running under the theme “Run, Breathe, Celebrate.”
“The preparation for the event that will feature four race categories — a 3km Fun Run, 5km, 10km and 21km half marathon — are going on well as we already have over 1,500 athletes who have registered,” Pasipanodya said.
“Preparations for the Nyanga Mountain Valley Marathon and Music Festival are progressing well, and we are focused on ensuring that every aspect of the experience is ready for participants when they arrive.”
He said the shorter distances are aimed at families, casual runners and walkers, while the main event will be a tougher test.
“The shorter distances are aimed at families, casual runners and participants who want a more relaxed experience, including those who prefer walking. For more experienced runners, the 21km half-marathon will provide a tougher challenge through Nyanga’s distinctive highland terrain, including its elevation changes and mountain landscapes.”
“We are grateful to Pacific Breeze for their support, and we promise a successful event.”
