AFTER suffering an ankle injury that saw his performance take a nose dive in the just-concluded Zifa Southern Region Division One League, Arenel Movers attacker Stanson Khanye is looking forward to an improved performance in the forthcoming 2024 season.
Khanye was the 2022 season Golden Boot Award winner after scoring 19 goals.
At that time, he was doing duty for ex-Southern Region Division One side Quality Foods.
In the past season, he was naturally hoping to continue from where he had left but got a knock that saw him being sidelined for a lengthy period.
As if that is not enough, he is not certain if Arenel Movers, who won the Southern Region Division One sole ticket to Premiership football, will recall him as they enter the “big boys” league.
“I have had a tough year. I have had to be very patient while nursing this injury. It is never easy but at least I know that I can fulfil my full potential when I am fit. Therefore, I will work very hard in whatever situation I have found myself in. I’m looking forward to returning to my previous form and to once again get recognised by my club,” said Khanye.
He finished the past season with three goals under his belt.
Asked about his performance in 2022, Khanye said: “That was undoubtedly my best season in my whole career, from there I thought my career would eventually take off, but then, that is football and life. At times things do not go as planned, I just have to keep working hard and you never know, something big might come up,” said Khanye.
After his stellar season with Quality Foods, the forward looked set to join Premiership outfit Bulawayo Chiefs but the deal unfortunately collapsed at its final stage.
If Arenel Movers, who are set to make their debut appearance in the country’s elite football league next year do not retain him, the lethal striker has all the potential to get equally good offers from elsewhere
