MOVES TO ENSURE NONSTOP WATER PUMPING TO BULAWAYO FROM NYAMANDLOVU: ZESA transformer security under spotlight

MINISTER of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka, is touring the Nyamandlovu Aquifer today with an inter-ministerial team to assess progress on ZESA’s efforts to harden transformer targets.

The transformers are key to providing uninterrupted power to boreholes, but have been constantly vandalised by criminals, threatening water supply to Bulawayo residents.

Bulawayo City Council, a major beneficiary of the aquifer, revealed its security team was overwhelmed, with only six officers deployed to guard 77 boreholes. The council has since urged the government to deploy state security resources to protect the vital infrastructure.

The inspection comes as authorities look to secure water supply amid growing concerns over vandalism and service disruption.
