FORMER Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo has been appointed National Health Advisor of the Zanu PF-affiliated National Men’s Forum 4ED with immediate effect.

The appointment was confirmed in a statement by the forum’s national chairperson Cde Kudzanai Gavaza, who said Dr Moyo’s vast experience in public health administration and clinical medicine would strengthen the organisation’s health advocacy programmes.

“Dr Moyo’s distinguished career in public health and his unwavering commitment to improving the wellbeing of men and their families make him the most suitable candidate to advance the forum’s health agenda,” he said.

As National Health Advisor, Dr Moyo will provide strategic guidance on health-related policies, programmes and advocacy initiatives, with particular emphasis on men’s physical and mental health, preventive care and health education.

He will also oversee research initiatives, review policy briefs and represent the forum at national health sector meetings, conferences and media engagements.

Cde Gavaza said Dr Moyo will play a key role in forging partnerships with Government ministries, health institutions, non-governmental organisations and academic bodies, while offering expert advice on emerging health challenges, including chronic diseases, reproductive health, mental health issues and drug and substance abuse.

Dr Moyo brings over 43 years of experience in the health sector, having begun his career with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare in 1981.

He is widely recognised for his pioneering work in renal medicine and was instrumental in the establishment of Zimbabwe’s kidney transplant programme, which led to the country’s first successful kidney transplant at Parirenyatwa Central Hospital in 1992.
