A 25-YEAR-OLD Mozambican national, Fernando Escova, recently appeared before Mutare Magistrates Court for illegally entering the country without a passport.
He was charged with contravening Section 29(1)(a) of the Immigration Act (Chapter 4:02) for failing to present himself to an immigration officer and entering the country without a valid passport.
Escova appeared before magistrate Mrs Annie Ndiraya, who convicted him on his own plea of guilty to the offence.
Ms Ndiraya fined him US$30 or serve five days in prison.
Upon completion of the sentence, he will be deported back to Mozambique.
Prosecutor Mr Thurston Mubvumbi told the court that Escova skipped into the country on August 24, 2025.
“On the same day he was apprehended by police officers from ZRP Changadzi, who were on patrol around 2pm. The police officers were stationed near an illegal crossing point at the Forbes Border Post when they encountered the accused person entering the country. He was subsequently arrested and escorted to Mutare Central Police Station,” said Mr Mubvumbi.
