A 26-YEAR-OLD Mozambican has appeared before a Mwenezi magistrate facing charges of shooting dead a foreign currency dealer and seriously injuring three others at Ngundu Business Centre on Boxing Day.Isaac Mlambo of Chipache Village under Chief Makuwu in Mozambique, who worked in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province, was not asked to plead when he appeared before provincial magistrate Mr Timeon Makunde on Tuesday last week facing murder charges.

Mr Makunde remanded Mlambo in custody to January 14 and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court. Charges against Mlambo arose on December 26, 2013 when, together with an accomplice still at large, he allegedly pounced on foreign currency dealers at Ngundu Business Centre.

The court heard that Mlambo and his accomplice were armed with loaded CZ pistols when they confronted the foreign currency dealers at Mapuvire Store. The pair allegedly shot indiscriminately at the dealers while ordering them to surrender the money they had on them.
Mlambo and his accomplice allegedly shot dead Tapera Chibaya (age not given) and injured three others. The three sustained serious injuries and are battling for their lives in hospital.

Mlambo and his colleague took away an undisclosed amount of money and airtime from their victims and fled, it is alleged. Luck ran out for Mlambo when he was apprehended by people at the business centre and handed over to Ngundu police.

His alleged accomplice escaped and police are looking for him. Mr Zibusiso Mnkandla appeared for the State.
