The process of regularising settlements in Harare South constituency, as part of the broader project to bring sanity to the area, has begun, legislator Cde Tongai Mnangagwa said yesterday. Cde Mnangagwa said the regularisation programme had been on the cards for a very long time without tangible results and it was now being implemented under the Second Republic, which emphasises action.

“The plans to regularise Harare South has been on the cards for a very long time now,” he said. “MP Nyanhongo came, he talked about it, but nothing took place, Mashayamombe came, duped people of their hard-earned cash in the name of regularisation and still nothing happened.

“We are now in the Second Republic and it’s now time to act and bring results. With the help of other stakeholders, I’m happy that we have started road construction in some parts of Stoneridge Park, which will soon spread to all the parts of the constituency.”

Cde Mnangagwa said water, sewer reticulation and electrification will follow as soon as the paperwork from the responsible departments was complete.

“Once paperwork on water and sewer plan layout is complete, we will float tenders for those projects and hit the ground running,’’ he said.

“I am now going to sit down with officials from the (Harare) City Council and ZESA Holdings. My target is to ensure that residents will be seeing some development in their area by year end.”

Cde Mnangagwa said areas planned for other amenities such as schools and hospitals had been identified and reserved to pave way for their development.

He said at least 100 000 households in Harare South will receive title deeds to their residential stands, with the assistance of the Zimbabwe Property Owners Trust, as soon as regularisation was complete.
Cde Mnangagwa directed residents to stop making any payments to housing cooperatives in the area or anyone purporting to be representing them.

He said he was investigating land disputes in his constituency, unearthing and bringing to an end the land baron menace.
Cde Mnangagwa urged residents to report suspicious land allocations in the area.
