Black Rhinos Queens……….(2) 3
Correctional Queens………….1
BLACK Rhinos Queens utility player Lincie Mpaya grabbed a brace as the army side dismissed Correctional Queens in a Zimbabwe Women’s Football League match at One Commando yesterday.
Mpaya crossed the floor from Harare City Council during the second half of the season.
She immediately settled at her new club and was the toast of the day for Black Rhinos Queens yesterday, scoring either side of the half.
Mpaya got her goals in the 22nd minute and 85th minute while Rutendo Makore got the other goal in the 27th minute. Correctional Queens’s striker Erina Jeke pulled one back quickly after early goals by the hosts.
The gangly Mpaya was happy to open her account for her new club after featuring in four matches.
“I am happy that we managed to win, the game was a bit tough but we managed to score. We displayed great team spirit and deserved to win,” said Mpaya.
“I have settled well and I am enjoying my game here. The players at the club are very competitive and there are many stars here,” she said.
It was an exciting match at One Commando Barracks as the two service teams clashed in a top-of-the-table clash.
The army side could have won by a bigger margin had they been clinical in front of the goal.
The Mighty Warriors forward Makore could have also grabbed a brace but she was denied by Correctional Queens goalkeeper Manyara Mandara.
Correctional Queens’s midfielder Samukeliswe Zulu dangerous cross was timely saved by goalie Precious Mudyiwa as the two teams that boast of some of the good players in the league traded blows. Black Rhinos Queens coach Kuda Matuvi was disappointed with his team’s conversion rate.
