MPILO Central Hospital has found a home for the two children who have been stuck at the health institution after their mother dumped them before vanishing without trace in February. Sibusisiwe Faith Ndlovu, the hospital’s public relations officer, said The Chronicle’s coverage of the matter has brought a positive change in the lives of the children – a boy of three years and his nine-month-old sister.
“We’ve found a home for the children. Queen Elizabeth Adventist Children’s Home has approached us but I don’t want to say much at the moment. We still have the children at the hospital as we’re working on logistics for their transfer,” said Ndlovu.
A comment could not be obtained from the children’s home, which takes care of orphans and children that have been dumped by their parents. Yesterday, a United Kingdom-based donor appealed to the mother of the two minors to come forward and claim her children in exchange for financial support.
Radio legend Ezra Tshisa Sibanda, through his foundation the Ezra Tshisa Initiative, said he had found a sponsor who will assist the mother in raising the children if she came forward to claim them. The sponsor will give her a $100 per month allowance for the upkeep of the children until they go through their secondary education. The hospital belives the mother had planned to dump the children.
Ndlovu said: “It seems she planned it. She brought her children on January 20 from Inyathi. Officials at Inyathi District Hospital said she requested to be referred to Mpilo. Her younger one wasn’t feeling well but the boy was okay. She pleaded with hospital officials to let her stay with both of them while the other one was receiving medical treatment. She told hospital officials that she had nobody at home to take care of him.”
She carefully erased her name and address on the child health card, making her untraceable, before vanishing on February 4.
