Mpopoma High girls’ Under-15 football team to represent Byo in national championships

The Nobuhle Majika led, Mpopoma High School Under-15 girls’ football team has qualified for the National Association for Secondary Heads (NASH) nationals which will be held in Goromonzi from next Tuesday.

12 schools from Bulawayo competed for the chance to represent the city at the nationals where all the 10 provinces will meet to compete for the championship.

Harare Metropolitan Province is the defending champion. Mpopoma won the national championship in 2022.

The provincial qualifying games were played in bubble format and Mpopoma High School was in bubble A with Amhlophe, Townsend and Riverdale.

All four teams played three games each, Mpopoma won all, emerging victorious with nine points followed by Amhlophe with six points.

Townsend and Riverdale both had a point each.

Marvelous Mbambo the sports director at Sobukazi and convener in charge of Bulawayo province said that the games went on smoothly.

“The girls did their best and the deserving team won which is Mpopoma and they will be representing us at Goromonzi and we wish them all the best,” she said.

The boys’ games are ongoing at Gifford High School.
