Mpopoma High parades Nash U-20 girls’ volleyball trophy

MPOPOMA High School on Wednesday marked the end of the term with a road show around the suburb and neighbouring areas parading the Nash Under-20 girls’ volleyball trophy they won at the national competition two weeks ago.

The road show was aimed at encouraging other pupils to participate in extracurricular activities to escape the unintended dangers that come with idleness.

The convoy left the school and drove through the heart of Entumbane to Lobengula past Sikhulile High to Njube and then back to Mpopoma High.

The Under-20 girls’ volleyball coach Georgina Chauke and captain Nyaradzo Muzata hailed their Nash trophy victory as a great achievement for the school and Bulawayo since Mpopoma was the first to win the accolade in the province.

Muzata, an ‘A’ level pupil, said sports and academic activities can be balanced to come up with a complete student.

Sports director James Rugwevera said: “We’re trying to make the parents understand that we’re not an academic institution only, but that we also cater for extracurricular activities to develop a complete human being.”

Five Mpopoma players, Rosemary Ncube, Nyaradzo Muzata, Polite Ncube, Amanda Ngulube and Viginia Moyo, were included in the Bulawayo provincial volleyball team for the National Youth Games in Mutare later this month.
