Committee elections. In an interview, Zanu-PF Mashonaland East provincial chairman Cde Ray Kaukonde said the leadership would not want divisions to distabilise the party ahead of the forthcoming elections.
He said DCC elections were meant to strengthen the party not destroy it.
Most elections held in Manicaland and other provinces have been mired in controversy.
“There are structures and people know that elections are conducted by the commissariat. These are the people who are supposed to be in charge of the elections while us as the leadership will observe from our homes,” he said.
Cde Kaukonde identified Goromonzi, Mutoko and Wedza as areas where legislators have tried to influence results of the forthcoming elections.
“Our elections are expected to strengthen the party and any leaders trying to influence the outcome of these elections would be dealt with sternly,” he said.
The provincial chairman said DCC posts would be shared among the constituencies in a district.
“If there are three constituencies in a district then the 13 posts would be divided equally among the constituencies,” he said.
Cde Kaukonde blamed MPs who are trying to retain their seats for dividing the people.
“If we start fighting when electing DCC members what would happen during primaries?
“Those trying to disturb the party will face the music because we will not hesitate to throw them out of the party.”
He said the elections set for May this year would be led by provincial political commissar Cde Bright Makunde.
“Me and Politiburo member Cde Sydney Sekeramayi will be at our homes because we cannot be seen trying to influence the outcome and so should every other leader in the province,” he said.
Cde Makunde is currently working on registration and gathering more data of the party structures ahead of the DCC elections.
“DCC elections should be co-ordinated by central committee members from the other provinces but Cde Makunde should be the overall election boss,” he said.
Cde Kaukonde, however, urged party supporters to remain united.
“There is life after elections and people should remain united for a strong party,” he said.
Zanu-PF supporters in Manicaland recently besieged the provincial party headquarters in Mutare demanding the immediate resignation of provincial party boss Cde Mike Madiro.
The supporters from Mutare, Buhera and Makoni districts were accusing him of meddling in DCC elections.
