THE director of Mr Blazer, Mr Francis Chiwanda, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Honourable Dr Omphile Marupi on his recent appointment as the Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services.
Mr Chiwanda highlighted his long-standing acquaintance with Hon Dr Marupi, dating back to their shared experiences in the radio industry.
“Congratulations to the Deputy Minister, we worked together since he started on radio.
“I know him from long back, and I can say he is a good person and we wish him great achievements in his new post.”
Reflecting on his personal journey, Mr. Chiwanda traced his roots from humble beginnings as a garden boy in 1976 to establishing a successful sewing business specializing in school blazers, sportswear, schoolwear, school hats, and safety wear.
“I started as a garden boy in 1976 and moved to the industry where I worked for a few years.
“I retired and started my sewing business in 1987 when I was still a garden boy, till now I have used my talent of sewing to grow my business.”
Mr. Chiwanda also mentors interns, imparting sewing skills and providing support with sewing machines for a five-year period until they become self-sufficient.
However, he acknowledges the challenges they face due to limited funding and the burden of expensive loans amidst economic hardships. He expressed hope for potential partnerships or funding opportunities to alleviate these challenges.
