Filabusi-born musician Mr Vuu (born Sindiso Moyo), formerly known as Jaycee Rapaddict, is set to make waves this festive season with the launch of Vuu Nation Recording Studio, a move aimed at nurturing local talent.
The studio, which is set to open this month, is a project born from Mr Vuu’s desire to create opportunities for young artistes in Filabusi, a community he says has largely been overlooked in terms of exposure to the music industry.
“There’s a lot of talent in our community, and the studio will help grow it. I remember how people from my hometown were shocked when I started doing music. Most had never been exposed to such things, so I’m hoping to turn things around with the studio,” he said.
The imminent launch comes at a time the South Africa-based musician is preparing for one of his major appearances under his new brand, Mr Vuu, in Filabusi this weekend.
He is billed to perform at the inaugural Chivas Festival alongside South Africa’s DJ Tira, as well as local acts including Zhezhingtons, Baby Girl, Tropical Quins dance group, and DJs Sweeto, Tamar and Tonic.
Sharing the stage with DJ Tira in his hometown carries special meaning for the artiste, who has previously performed alongside continental heavyweights like the late AKA, Black Coffee and Cassper Nyovest.
“The difference here is that I’ll be in front of my own people. Shining in front of the community that raised me is something to be very proud of,” he said.
Reflecting on his evolution, Mr Vuu said he has matured both artistically and as a performer.
“I’ve come from having just one song to being able to keep a crowd on its feet for more than four hours. That’s something every artiste dreams of.”
The name Mr Vuu, he said, was coined by the community itself.
“Jaycee Rapaddict was more about me as an individual. But Mr Vuu is the name given to me by the people. Now, it’s no longer just about doing music for myself, I’m representing everyone who believes in me,” he said.
The artiste, who recently released a collaboration titled Korobela featuring Blaq Major and Bless the Gentleman, also has upcoming shows lined up in Inyathi and Maphisa this festive season.
