WITH a month to go before he heads for the Boksburg Classic Bodybuilding and Fitness Show in South Africa, Mr Zimbabwe International Trade Fair menas fitness champion Tinotenda Ryan Gumbo is leaving no stone unturned for the contest that draws competitors from Southern Africa.
The annual event is dominated by South African bodybuilders with selected athletes coming from other countries that include Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana.
Because his training regime also requires an assortment of supplements, Gumbo got a shot in the arm after a local businessman chipped in with a donation of supplements and R150 to register when he gets to South Africa.
Last year former Mr Bulawayo champion Lovemore Munyamana pulled out of the Arnold Classics citing lack of sponsorship for supplements and a strict diet that he required to fully prepare for the international show.
He required $20 daily for a dozen of boiled eggs, half or full chicken and fish, specifically bream or hake.
It was also imperative that he takes supplements a three scoops per day in addition to oats, brown rice and potatoes.
The Boksburg Classic Bodybuilding and Fitness Show is pencilled for 24 July.
a?I received a donation of supplements, allowances to use during my time South Africa as well as registration fees for the event from Muscle Rage, a company owned by Thabo Ngulube who is also a bodybuilder.
a?The donation came at a time when I needed it the most because funding is so difficult to come by these days,a? said Gumbo.
Despite the timely donation Gumbo is still faced with the same challenges that led to Munyamana withdrawing from the Arnold Classics a funds to purchase a special diet.
a?The diet is very expensive, it must comprise of chicken breasts, eggs and tuna among other requirements. The gym where I currently train doesnat have proper equipment so Iam hoping better equipped gyms in Bulawayo will allow me use their facilities before I go to South Africa,a? he said. . .
