FORMER Highlanders player Daniel Msendami was on target as title chasing Botswana Premier League side Jwaneng Galaxy hammered Prisons XI 7-0 at the Lobatse Stadium on Sunday which saw the Star Boys keep up the pressure on log leaders Gaborone United.

Msendami, sold to Jwaneng Galaxy by Bosso at start of this year after initially joining on loan in August 2022, scored just before the halfway mark for the second-placed side to lead 4-0 going into halftime.

Another ex-Highlanders player, Nqobizitha Masuku was introduced at the start of the second-half as the away team added another three goals in the second period.

The win saw Jwaneng Galaxy close the gap on log leaders Gaborone United, with both teams now on 37 points after the defending champions were held to a 1-1 draw by Eleven Angels.

It was a bad day in office for Zimbabwean coach Mandla Mpofu who was at the end of a 3-1 beating at the hands of Sua Flamingoes at Sowa Town Council Stadium.

Mpofu’ Masitaoka are on position six on the table with 25 points.

The Zimbabwean gaffer joined the Botswana side in August. He has been in charge of 15 matches, winning eight losing six and managed one stalemate.

Sua Flamingoes, previously coached by Rahman Gumbo, have five Zimbabweans on their books, Mcebisi Moyo, Cleopas Dube, Dominic Chungwa, Tendai Nyamusi and Rodi Sibanda.

Sibanda and Nyamusi started the match, Chungwa and Moyo were on the bench while Dube was out suspended.

Moyo equalised with a diving header from a Samuel Makgoro cross. Captain Nyumasi sealed the win as he also scored a header after Galagwe Muyana and Moyo linked well in the build up to the goal. Makgoro caught Masitaoka on the counter as he dribbled past the keeper to make it 3-1

Taurai Mangwiro-coached Orapa United are also in the title race as they are three points behind the two top teams. They drew one all with Township Rollers at the weekend. – @innocentskizo
