JWANENG Galaxy FC midfielder Daniel Msendami has said that the new rule that states that all foreign players playing in the league must have at least three caps does not affect him.
The Botswana Premier league is home to several Zimbabwean players like Mbonisi Ncube at BDF XI, Nigel Mlauzi at Nico United, Mcebisi Moyo at Sua Flamingoes, Rodi Sibanda and Jacob Mloyi at Masitaoka and Nqobizitha Masuku who is Msendami’s teammate at Jwaneng Galaxy.
“I was assured that I was safe and my place in the team is still there but the team officials will be meeting tomorrow for an official decision so you never know.”
The Botswana Football Association wrote a circular which was confirmed by the acting chief executive officer, Tshepo Mphukuthi and it was focused on the registration, transfer and loaning of players in the league ahead of the 2023-2024 season.
“This serves to inform all professional clubs that per Article 6, 5, 4 of Regulation on the Status and transfer of players” a foreign player shall not be registered unless he has three or more Caps in any of the national teams,” read the letter.
The decision to be made by other sides remains to be seen as the league does not only play host to Zimbabwean players but also Namibian and South African internationals, with notable names such as S’fiso Myeni and Rooi Mahamutsa, two South African Internationals and former Orlando Pirates players who have led another team from Botswana, VTM FC to promotion to topflight football.
Msendami helped his team to championship glory last season as he was one of the top players and also the club’s third top scorer in his first season with the club.
If he is to be with the club in the upcoming season, he will also have the chance to showcase his talent at international stage as Jwaneng will compete in this season’s CAF Champions League.
