adminMIDLANDS State University has sent its director of finance Mrs Mamelo Moyo on forced leave pending investigations on allegations of fraud and corruption after she awarded tenders by the institution to her company.
Sunday News has it on good authority that Mrs Moyo has since relocated to Harare following the suspension and indications are that MSU will not renew her contract which expires next month. According to sources, Mrs Moyo violated principles of good corporate governance after she failed to declare her company to which she was a signatory and awarded it tenders to supply various products to the State institution.
The alleged scam was unearthed by MSU’s university council when it questioned the authenticity of some of the authorised tenders awarded to Mrs Moyo’s company.
“Mrs Moyo has been sent on forced leave to pave way for investigations and an audit after it emerged that she was awarding her company tenders to supply different materials to the university and signing cheques for the company to which she is a signatory. This is against good corporate governance principles,” said the source.
MSU Registrar Mr Erasmus Mupfiga could neither deny nor confirm the suspension referring all the questions to the university Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ngwabi Bhebe.
“On that my friend I do not have a comment. Send me your questions through e-mail and I will forward them to the Vice-Chancellor and see if he is willing to talk about it,” he said.
Prof Bhebe declined to comment. “Come to the office,” he said but later refused to entertain this reporter.
