Midlands State University’s marketing department has donated an assortment of goods to Gweru Provincial Hospital’s paediatric and maternity wards.

The donated items – which are worth $2 000 – include groceries, toys, clothes, sheets and other essential material.

Speaking during the handover ceremony last week, the department’s chairperson, Mrs Miriam Mugwati, said the donation was the first of its kind and the department would make sure that it would keep on assisting the hospital in order to improve the quality of patients’ living conditions during the period of their admission.

“This donation is targeting nursing mothers and the disabled children who are amongst the vulnerable groups in the society especially in these trying economic conditions.”

Gweru Provincial Hospital’s acting medical superintendent Dr Tendai Chandaengerwa said the hospital welcomed the donation by MSU and appealed to other corporates in the Midlands province to emulate MSU’s the kind gesture as the donation will help cater for patients.

“We welcome this gesture by MSU’s marketing department, as you all know Gweru Provincial Hospital is a referral hospital, which caters for the whole province, so our resources are strained,” he said.

“We welcome and appreciate this donation as it will go a long way in improving living the conditions of our patients.”
