ZIFA Central Soccer League outfit Midlands State University (MSU) has fired its entire technical staff led by head coach Joseph Michael following a string of poor results.
Michael was released together with his assistant and team manager Shepherd Pondiwa after winning five of the 15 games that the students have played this season.
The Varsity Sharks, who travel to Kwekwe for a date with Ivan Hoe today under a new coach who was expected to be unveiled last night.
Former Zifa board member Benedict Moyo is believed to be the front runner for the job.
MSU director of sport James Muvirimi Chivivi said the shake-up in the technical department would be followed by a reshuffling of the executive, which will see some executive members led by Tine Muzikamwe being chopped.
“We’ve asked the technical department led by Michael to step down because of poor results. His assistant Godfrey Chuchu and team manager Pondiwa have also left. If need be, we’ll also move to reshuffle the club executive,” said Chivivi.
MSU were pipped by Whawha for Premiership promotion last season and began the year as championship favourites after going on a pre-season shopping spree.
The Varsity Sharks have players with Premiership experience, such as the former Shabanie Mine quartet of Smart Muchabaiwa, Hamilton Masumbuko, Talbort Mthombeni and Farai Mususunye.
Zexie Zezani, who was poached from Chiredzi FC, also has Premiership experience.
Former Hwange attacking linkman Richard Jongwe left the students to join Bantu Rovers during the mid-season transfer window that closed last night.
