MIDLANDS State University (MSU) have taken the early initiative by powering to the top of the Central Soccer League table following back-to-back wins over the Easter holidays.

MSU dismissed FC Platinum Under-19 2–0 on Good Friday and edged Silo United 2–1 on Easter Monday.

The students lead the pack with six points from three matches they have played so far.

Head coach Themba Chingwena declared that his side was gunning for the championship.

“As a coach I want to reach the Promised Land and I am confident that this could be our year. I played competitive football in the elite league and I also want to coach where I played,” said Chingwena.

Elsewhere, Luke Petros-Jukulile was a relieved man when his Whawha side recorded their first win of the season after crushing a youthful Gwanda United 4–0 at Whawha Grounds.

Goals from Gerald Muringani, Silva Nhamo and a brace by Albert Matewu condemned Gwanda United.

Whawha lost their opening match 0–1 to Blanket Mine before playing to a goalless draw against ZPC Munyati.

A visibly relieved Petros–Jukulile said his side will build on the win to mount a challenge for this season’s championship.

“We were unlucky in our first two games when we failed to pick up maximum points, but I am happy with the way the boys responded. It was crucial and a confidence booster for us and we want to build on this game so that we also fight it out with other teams for the championship,” said Petros–Jukulile.

Shurugwi-based Makusha, who shocked former Premiership side Border Strikers 1–0 on Good Friday, had a change in fortunes after going down 0-1 to Tongogara.
