MIDLANDS State University failed to travel to Zvishavane for a date with FC Platinum Under 19 in a Zifa Central Soccer League Division One fixture after players staged a strike on the eve of the match. They were demanding to be paid outstanding allowances. Sources in the MSU camp said the outstanding allowances emanate from the two draws the side registered in the last three fixtures.
FC Platinum was subsequently awarded the match on a 3-0 score line.
Efforts to get comment from the MSU executive were futile as they were said to be locked in a meeting.
The inaction by MSU meant that only four fixtures were played across the region and log leaders Chapungu asserted their dominance with a comfortable 2-0 win over Silo United at Ascot Stadium on Sunday.
The result saw the airmen taking their points tally to 48 points and are only one match away to equal FC Platinum’s (then Mimosa) record for the longest unbeaten run in the league which currently stands at 19 matches.
Elsewhere, Gaths Mine bounced back from their 0–1 loss at home to Chapungu to beat inconsistent Vumbachikwe 2-0 in their backyard while second placed Chrome Stars also brought their championship charge back on track with a convincing 3-0 win over army side Tongogara.
The chrome miners had seen their unbeaten home record going up in smoke after falling to a resurgent Town United 1–3 last week.
Town United’s purple patch continued with a comfortable 2-0 win over Gwanda-based gold miners, Jessie Mine.
