The incident happened in Mpopoma suburb near Khongo Beer Garden.
Witnesses told The Chronicle that Isaac Mazambane was in the company of his friends watching social soccer when Maphosa arrived in his posh car.
The former Warriors midfielder is said to have slapped an elderly man who was selling his wares, accusing him of blocking his car.
Mazambane, who is employed by the Zimbabwe National Army, questioned Maphosa’ behavior and this did go down well with the player.
“He arrived here driving his car and almost knocked down a man who was selling his sweets before rushing to slap the old man.
“Mazambane then asked him why he hit the man but Maphosa rushed to his car and came back armed with a knife.
“He started playing with the knife, teasing Mazambane before stabbing him,” said a witness.
The witness added that realising what he had done, Maphosa escaped before people meted instant justice on him.
