HARARE regional magistrate Mr Musaiona Shortgame will on Friday deliver a ruling on an application for refusal of further remand filed by Marry Mubaiwa.
Mubaiwa is facing charges of attempting to kill Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga by allegedly unplugging his life-support system while he was admitted to a hospital in South Africa.
The application follows the State’s request for a postponement to enable it to locate witnesses.
Prosecutor Mr Lancelotte Mutsokoti told the court that the State needed more time to find the witnesses, but Mubaiwa’s lawyer, Ms Beatrice Mtetwa, opposed the request before filing an application for refusal of further remand.
During previous sittings, former Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Dr John Mangwiro, who testified as a witness, told the court that Vice-President Chiwenga would allegedly become unconscious whenever Mubaiwa entered the room where he was admitted, despite having been awake before her arrival.
Dr Mangwiro also testified that the complainant’s health would deteriorate whenever he returned home after receiving treatment abroad.
“Each time we took the complainant out of the country for medication, he would come back home well,” he said.
“However, he would start deteriorating when he got back home. I don’t know what was happening.”
Dr Mangwiro said Mubaiwa would kick everyone out of the VP’s hospital room. At one point, she refused to take the complainant to the hospital and opted to take him to a hotel.
“As the complainant was being taken to the hospital, the accused once opted for a hotel. I told her it was dangerous but she said the complainant wanted to rest,” said Dr Mangwiro.
