THE Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, is in Beijing, China, for a five-day working visit at the invitation of Mr Zhao Leji, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC).
Adv Mudenda and his delegation arrived on Monday and were welcomed by Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to China, Mrs Abigail Shonhiwa.
He is accompanied by members of the Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, including Chairperson Cde Webster Shamu, Labanny Munemo, Auxilia Dhanzi, Basilia Majaya and Jabulani Hadebe.
“Zimbabwe and China enjoy excellent fraternal relations dating back to the struggle for the independence of Zimbabwe, wherein China played a critical role in providing the frontline liberation freedom fighters with material and tactical support, vital to the ultimate success of the war against the minority white settler regime,” a statement from Parliament said.
It emphasised that government-to-government relations have reached new heights, particularly with the recent construction of the New Parliament Building under the strategic cooperation between Zimbabwe and China.
The visit aims to enhance the existing cordial relations between the two legislatures. During this trip, Adv Mudenda and his delegation are expected to tour various companies, focusing on high-tech sectors and agriculture.
“Additionally, Speaker Mudenda will also visit the Palace Museum of the Communist Party, the Ant Group, China Railway International Group, Gansu Construction Investment Group, as well as the Nantan Photovoltaic Power Generation Project in Guangzhou,” the statement said.
These visits form part of a highly packed programme designed to foster collaboration.
The visit will undoubtedly renew synergies within the Zimbabwe-China Friendship Association, a key component in strengthening legislative relations between the two republics.
“Furthermore, through this visit and in celebration of the 45th anniversary of Zimbabwe-China diplomatic relations, Zimbabwe reaffirms its commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties anchored on mutual trust, sovereign respect, solidarity, and shared prosperity,” the statement added.
This working visit underscores the importance of Zimbabwe’s relationship with China, showcasing ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation in various sectors.
Adv Mudenda’s engagements are expected to yield beneficial outcomes for both countries, reaffirming their commitment to mutual development and strategic partnership.
His visit to China represents a significant step in reinforcing the historical ties that bind Zimbabwe and China, with a focus on building a prosperous future through collaborative efforts.
