All is set for the Harare East District, United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship fundraising dinner and excellence awards to be held this weekend in Waterfalls. The inaugural awards will see youths from the church being honoured for their excellency and achievements in their respective committees and circuits.
The dinner is meant to raise funds which will be used for the youth programmes to develop lifestyles and assist a charity organisation that also has been selected.
Gospel hip-hop award winner Mudiwa Mtandwa is expected to grace the grand occasion. In an interview with this reporter, UMYF president Brighton Munjoma said preparations are an at advanced stage.
“We are targeting at raising $7 000 during the night as we have a lot on offer from activities. The main reason for the event is not only awarding the best youths who have done exceptionally well but to have funds for our projects including community service work and recreational facilities. We have identified a charity organisation too that will also benefit. As you all know, good works if not shared are not good at all,” he said.
Munjoma said the event is running under the theme “Glitz and Glamour”
“As Methodist Church we stick to the rules and nothing is taken away. The event will run under the theme, — ‘Glitz and Glamour’ and it’s more of a black tie event, “ he said.
Asked about the categories, Munjoma said only 10 awards are up for grabs.
“The nomination process has already been done. We have 10 categories with each five nominations. Only one winner will receive a trophy and a certificate. I believe we have marketed well the event in terms of other platforms. We are having our dry run rehearsal on Thursday (tomorrow) and if you want to see how creative the church can be, I suggest you come,” he said.
“Ndaita Mari” hit-maker, Mudiwa said he was happy to be part of the event.
“This is not my first time performing at a set up like this. I respect their objective and I encourage companies and stakeholders to come in their numbers to rally behind the youths as they are the leaders of tomorrow. I will also use the opportunity to sample some of my new songs and reconnect with youths from the organisation,” he said.
The event will see some of the dignitaries, diplomats, models, designers, pastors and influential people attending.
