Mudzi West has faith in Zanu-PF

Harare Bureau
THE ruling party retained the Mudzi West National Assembly seat after its candidate Cde Magna Mudyiwa garnered 9 837 votes against a paltry 107 votes for Mr George Kawaza of the National Constitutional Assembly.

The resounding win continues to assert Zanu-PF’s political dominance.

Constituency elections officer Ms Loice Masimu announced the results yesterday morning at around 2.30am.

“I Masimu Loice . . . ascertained the results of the poll for the said constituency, and that there have been given to: Kawaza George of NCA 107, Mudyiwa Magna 9 837 votes. And that I therefore, declare the said Mudyiwa Magna this day to be duly elected Member of Parliament for the Mudzi West constituency,” said Ms Masimu.

There were 112 spoilt ballot papers.

In an interview, Cde Mudyiwa said she would continue with the developmental work she had initiated in the constituency.

“We want to work on the constituency’s roads, schools and clinics and ensure that people access water,” she said.

Mr Kawaza was not at the constituency command centre when the election results were announced after realising his pending election defeat.

Need for the by-election arose after the death of Cde Aquillina Katsande early this year.
