Mujokoro cons neighbours

FORMER Amazulu and Highlanders’ striker Farai Mujokoro is in hiding after allegedly duping a number of people of money, mostly his neighbours, claiming that his son had clinched a lucrative deal with a South African football side.

Mujukoro approached his neighbours seeking urgent financial assistance saying his son wanted to travel to SA to conclude the deal with the team.

In WhatsApp messages to some of his victims, which are in possession of Chronicle Sport, Mujokoro, who is believed to be in hiding in SA, claimed that his son Lexington, had clinched a deal with Cape Town City FC and needed to be urgently assisted with transport money and other expenses, including Covid-19 tests.

He used this modus operandi on all his victims, mostly unsuspecting ladies, to dupe them of money, claiming that he too had to travel to South Africa for the signing ceremony.

In one message to his victim, he created a fake message purportedly coming from Cape Town City FC inviting him to come and sign some consent documents for his son.

“Good morning Sir, we kindly request you to come over and sign the documents and approve your son’s signing-on fees of R3,5 million to be paid in two batches,” reads the WhatsApp message.

A few days later on June, 22, 2021, he informed his victims that the deal had been sealed and Lexington was now a Cape Town City FC player and would be earning R65 000 in addition to a signing-on fee of R2,3 million.

“Hey mamakhe, agreed on his salary of R65 000, allowances R2 500, signing on fees of R2,3 million to be paid in two batches, father loyalty fee R15  000 a month. House for rent to buy. We are just waiting for IP (international clearance),” wrote Mujokoro.

He used the same trick to charm and assure his victims that repaying wouldn’t be a challenge.

His son Lexington is in the books of Bulawayo Chiefs. One lady who said Mujokoro is her neighbour, said she lost about R12 000 to him.

She said when she gave him the money she did not know she was dealing with a criminal.

“It turns out he did not con me alone, but many other people, especially from Lobengula West. I now know of at least seven people,” said the lady.

It’s not clear if it’s a father and son scheme because in one of the chats between the lady and Lexington, the young footballer tells the lady that his father (Farai) was unwell and needed help.

After exchanging a few words, the lady asks Lexington about Cape Town and he replies “ukuqanda kuphela” as if he was in Cape Town.

On December 18, 2021, Mujokoro again sent another message to one of his victims claiming Lexington was urgently needed at Cape Town City for a four-year R5,7 million deal despite having allegedly signed a deal six months earlier.

“Need to go (to) Cape Town today broe, umfana ufunwa yiCape Town City blind and for a 4 yr contract of 5,7m rand broe, can’t miss this, ngicela ungincede nge-transport money, will give you Wednesday please lawe ngzakuzama,” he wrote.

Mujokoro’s WhatsApp and mobile phone numbers are not going through.
