SUNGURA singer Panganayi Hare believes he has come up with a “unique” formula that is gradually making him a force to reckon with in the music industry.
Better known as Mukoma Panga, the musician’s latest release — a single titled “Tadiwanashe” — has captured the attention of many.
The song is off his forthcoming album, whose working title is “Pahushamwari Hwedu”.
On “Tadiwanashe”, the corporate lawyer-cum-singer enlisted the services of the high-flying sungura singer Mark Ngwazi and gifted Zimdancehall chanter Beezman, better known as Chipoko ChaSauro.
“I have moved away from the traditional way of doing music, sungura, to be precise. I am blending sungura with Zimdancehall and other genres, as I am working with different artistes so as to bring diversity to fans,” said Mukoma Panga.
Last year, the aspiring musician worked with singer Dispatch and Chipoko ChaSauro on the track “Sadza Nemhiripiri”.
The enchanting track was a blend of sungura, Zimdancehall and rhumba.
“Sadza Nemhiripiri” came out seventh in the popular Radio Zimbabwe end-of-year Top 50 competition and was voted number two on the National FM Top 50 charts.
At Platinum FM (formerly Nyami Nyami FM), it was sixth, while the video also made it into ZBC TV’s top 50 videos.
Mukoma Panga said he was carefully studying local music trends so as to come up with a winning formula.
“Mark Ngwazi is doing extremely well in sungura at the moment. I did not think twice before engaging him. I like his creativity and we easily gelled. It was a pleasure working with him in the studio.
“There is no doubt that Mark has a large following and as a result of the collaboration, his fans and other neutrals who may not have known me or my music will get to appreciate what I do. As for Chipoko ChaSauro, I have worked with him on the ‘Sadza Nemhiripiri’ project, which was very successful,” he said.
Mukoma Panga, who is also a promoter, has been assisting the youthful Zimdancehall singer to record his own works.
“By including him (Chipoko ChaSauro) on the project, my aim was to target youths who relate to Zimdancehall music, most of whom are still nostalgic about the late Soul Jah Love. This is my second collaboration with Chipoko ChaSauro.
“He is family and is part of my long-term music plans. When he has his own projects, we assist him. He is currently working on his forthcoming album. We encourage him to do more of his projects. He is very talented, creative and eager to learn,” said Mukoma Panga.
“Tadiwanashe” is a song that tackles issues to do with drug and substance abuse.
In the track, a parent encourages a child to shun delinquent behaviour and to be God-fearing.
Ngwazi and Chipoko ChaSauro’s touch is unmistakable.
“The song will have an accompanying video, which we have already started working on. It is my hope that fans who have already welcomed the audio will equally enjoy the visuals.
“I have already finished recording the album and, as the title ‘Pahushamwari Hwedu’ suggests, this is an album full of collaborations involving a lot of big names in the industry. I have made a lot of friends in the industry over the years and, as such, l can work with any artiste from any genre,” he said.
Other artistes Mukoma Panga has worked with in the past include Somandla Ndebele, Gift “Shiga Shiga” Katulika and Agartha Murudzwa.
His other two albums are “Mbuva YeHwiza” and “Pfimbi YeGudo”. Singles include “Chibhakera”, “Uri Wangu” and “Mai Mwana”.
