MULTICHOICE Africa has confirmed that production is underway for the third and final season of the award-winning epic drama Shaka iLembe, which is set to premiere on Mzansi Magic in 2026.

Global star Nomzamo Mbatha will return both as executive producer and in her iconic role as Queen Nandi, leading an all-star cast into the concluding chapter of Africa’s first epic drama series.

Produced by BOMB! Productions — the creative powerhouse behind Isibaya, Jacob’s Cross and Yizo Yizo — the series continues to stand as a monumental investment in African storytelling.

In a statement, MultiChoice described Shaka iLembe as its largest and most ambitious production to date.

“It created over 8 000 jobs during Season 1 and more than 16 000 in Season 2, while showcasing South Africa’s breathtaking landscapes to global audiences. The show has made history as the most-awarded drama at the South African Film & Television Awards and has also earned international acclaim, including recognition in Europe.”

Season One introduced viewers to Shaka (Lemogang Tsipa) on his journey to manhood, with Queen Nandi (Nomzamo Mbatha) fiercely defending her son’s destiny against all odds. The series quickly became a cultural phenomenon, sparking widespread conversation and breaking new ground in African television. Season Two followed Shaka’s rise to power as king of the Zulu nation, highlighting his strategic brilliance, leadership and vision, while weaving in the Swati storyline to reflect the interconnected histories of Southern Africa.

Nomsa Philiso, CEO of MultiChoice General Entertainment, said that from the moment Season One was announced, they knew Shaka iLembe would redefine African storytelling. She added that Season Three will cement its place as a landmark series in the history of African television.

Season Three promises an explosive conclusion to Shaka’s saga — a tale of vision, glory and betrayal.

“As Shaka hosts the grandest Ijadu in Zulu history, an assassin’s spear strikes at the heart of royalty, unleashing a storm of suspicion and vengeance within his court. With tensions escalating, war against the Mpondo tribe intensifies, while Queen Nandi guards a devastating secret. Meanwhile, the arrival of Francis Fynn and the British at

Port Natal marks the beginning of colonial intrusion, forever altering the course of history.”

Executive producer Desiree Markgraaff of BOMB! Productions said, “With this final season, we aim to deliver a powerful conclusion — one that honours the legacy of the Zulu Kingdom while showcasing the depth of African creativity on a global stage.”

Reflecting on the final chapter, Nomzamo Mbatha said, “The pressure is immense. Shaka iLembe has been the project of my career and a beloved show across Africa. Season Three will bring everything full circle — from sweeping love stories to epic battles and the rise of a nation, all before the shadow of colonialism. This is African history told with pride and grandeur.”

The stellar cast will feature Mbatha, Tsipa, Wiseman Mncube, Dawn Thandeka King, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, Mondli Makhoba and many others. New cast members for the third season will be announced soon.
