MULTICHOICE Zimbabwe will introduce a revamped DStv package line-up on November 5, in one of the platform’s most significant product developments in recent years, with the changes aimed at widening access to programming and improving value for subscribers.
The new packages, developed by the MultiChoice Group, a Canal+ company, are designed to respond to changing viewing habits and customer preferences while maintaining the platform’s mix of local productions, African entertainment, international content and live sport.
MultiChoice Zimbabwe Country chief executive officer Edwina Korir said the changes were driven by a desire to enhance subscribers’ enjoyment of the information, education and entertainment available on the platform.
“DStv’s strength is its combination of local, African entertainment, international content and unrivalled live sport in one place,” she said.
“We’ve reimagined our packages to better reflect how customers watch today, with tailored options specifically for general entertainment and sports fans.”
A key feature of the new structure is the planned availability of some of DStv’s major channels at more accessible price points, potentially giving viewers greater flexibility in choosing packages that suit their interests and budgets.
The revamped line-up will introduce the following package categories: DStv Starter, DStv Select, DStv Sports, DStv Movies and Series, and DStv Ultimate, alongside the new structure’s distinct programming options.
The packages will cater for different viewing preferences, from audiences interested in local stories and reality television to subscribers seeking sporting action, films and series.
The introduction of a dedicated Sports package signals a focus on viewers whose primary interest is live sporting content, while Movies and Series will cater for audiences seeking film and television entertainment. Ultimate will sit within the new line-up as an option for subscribers looking for a broader viewing experience.
The changes come as pay-television providers continue to navigate shifting consumer preferences, household budget pressures and competition from digital streaming services.
For subscribers, package flexibility and the relationship between price and content remain important considerations when choosing a television service.
By restructuring its offerings, MultiChoice is seeking to make its content proposition more responsive to the way audiences consume television, while retaining the combination of local, regional and international programming that has traditionally distinguished DStv. – —@MbuleloMpofu
